"El Tiempo/The Time" by artist Luis MacKinney. Luis MacKinney is a self-taught artist from Mexico City. He began his artistic journey in 2014, initially working with watercolor before transitioning to acrylic. His first exhibition took place at The City of Raleigh Museum. Throughout his career, MacKinney has participated in and collaborated with various galleries, museums, and exhibitions, including the Durham City Life and Science Museum, the United Arts Council of Raleigh, Durham School of the Arts, ArtSpace, Durham Arts Council, Orange County Arts Commission, and the Eno Arts Mill Gallery, among others.
 
 "El Tiempo” refers in general, the relatives of those who were unjustly detained and are currently serving a wrongful sentence. Letters and communication with their loved ones offer a glimmer of hope as time passes slowly on a clock that seems to be watching the woman sitting in the crooked chair.
 
 The work of Luis MacKinney pushes geographic, color, and cultural boundaries. Self-taught, he innovates with each piece to immerse viewers in a unique concept of art. The artist believes in the power of art to remark on the most important aspects of human existence. With his art, MacKinney goes beyond the strokes to infuse each canvas with emotions, believing that art is a universal way of expressing what one feels.
