"My Final Vow - Mi Último Juramento," 2025
Oil on Canvas, a mix of chiaroscuro and Leandro
48 x 60
***
Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1990, Leandro arrived to the United States at the age of 16 in 2006. Art has been much more than a hobby for him; it is a way of seeing and interpreting the world. It is an insatiable passion that is part of his identity, of who he is.
From a young age, Leandro participated in numerous drawing courses, and his dream was always to enroll in the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts in Cuba. However, due to his migration to the United States, he didn't have the opportunity to do so. Over time, he taught himself how to paint, guided by books, videos, and a lot of practice.
Leandro's artistic influences come from the great masters of the 1600-1700s, with a particular admiration for Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, an Italian painter of the Renaissance. Leandro's main affinity is with oil painting on canvas, and the technique that he is most passionate about is chiaroscuro.
"Over time, abstract art began to resonate with me more as a form of expression. I find it easier to communicate through a painting than with words, so I enjoy incorporating it into many, if not most, of my works. My goal is to leave a visual message that can be interpreted according to each viewer's perspective."
This is de la Torre's second year contributing artwork to El Futuro's Art Auction.
